A murder mystery sheds light on the little-known story of the Ceylonese pioneers from the Dutch Burgher community who joined the subordinate government ranks in British Malaya.

A Sensational Murder Case

The caption from the 1808 book, a Dutch travelogue about a journey through the Odisha and the Coromandel coasts, indicates the woman in the illustration is a woman of mixed descent (Mestiessche vrouw, in staatsie na de Kerk gaande). The Eurasian Association was formed in 1919 with the objective of promoting and protecting the interests of Eurasians in British Malaya.
